Ibaraki Prefecture boasts the second largest production volume of lettuce in Japan. JA Group Ibaraki’s “Love Lettuce” brand has been loved by everyone for 28 years. The four JAs in the prefecture (JA Iwai, JA Kita Tsukuba, JA Ibaraki Mutsumi, JA Joso Hikari) lettuce is at its peak in spring and autumn.
The former Iwai district is located in the southwestern part of Ibaraki prefecture. Bando City is known as a large producer of lettuce and green onions. It is under the jurisdiction of JA Iwai, and the large fields spread out on the plains as far as the eye can see, soothing the mind. In the Bando area, lettuce seems to be harvested twice, in spring and autumn. It is close to Tokyo and Kanagawa, Japan’s largest consumption areas, and it takes about an hour and a half by truck from the JA’s vegetable pre-cooling center to the logistics base in Tokyo, making it a model for urban suburban agriculture.
In the same JA jurisdiction, daily efforts are recognized, and production areas that have passed strict standards such as quality and safety are designated as “Ibaraki Prefecture Fruits and Vegetables Brand Producing Areas”. In the production process, we use a special fertilizer rich in organic matter, and we are particular about creating healthy soil and carefully selecting and pursuing high quality. Furthermore, since cultivation is thoroughly managed and recorded, you can eat with confidence. Chilling to around 5°C immediately after harvesting and shipping while maintaining freshness seems to be one of their commitments.
