After the Meiji Restoration(dissolution of the feudal system), the land development bureau renamed Ezo ground Hokkaido and organized it into 11 countries and 86 counties, and Tokoro was incorporated into Kitami Province as Tokoro County. In 1883, the Hojang government office, which had jurisdiction over Tokoro County, was placed in the most developed Tokoro Autonomous District, and in 1915, the four villages of Tokoro, Teshimanai, Futochanai, and Chiushi merged to form Tokoro Village.
