Omitama’s chinese chives are widely produced in the Ogawa and Minori districts, and are well known for their fame. It is mainly shipped to markets in the Tokyo metropolitan area and delivered to many people. Chinese chive seems to be shipped almost all year round. There are winter Chinese chives grown in vinyl greenhouses, and summer Chinese chives grown in open fields or under rain cover. The first harvest of Chinese chives is called “first harvest,” and it’s particularly thick, tender, and delicious. After harvesting, new leaves grow, and it’s ready for the next harvest in about 30 days. I heard that one plant can yield 7~8 times.
Omitama City is located in the center of Ibaraki Prefecture, approximately 80 km northeast of central Tokyo, and is a region where livestock farming and vegetable gardening are thriving using vast fields. Among them, Chinese chive has a history of about 55 years and is known for being one of the leading production areas in Japan. Cultivation requires a long cultivation period of 2 to 3 years from planting to the end of harvest, and appropriate fertilization is important. It seems that they are building a crop rotation system by promoting green manure and introducing green manure as a countermeasure against continuous cropping failure.
At Hasebe agricultural farm, due to recent consumption trends, we are responding to requests from mass retailers for shipment by film packaging for each bundle. In addition, it seems that it is also promoting the further branding of the production area through profitable sales that focus on labor saving in shipping adjustment work, expansion of production including labor reduction, and quality control. In addition, all products are shipped in FG (Fresh Green) packaging that can be immediately displayed at retail stores and supermarkets.
