In 1889, the American cargo ship “Cheseborough” ran ashore off the coast of Shichiri Nagahama, and the devoted rescue efforts of the former Shariki villagers impressed me deeply. The rescue of the deadly people living in the sea has been handed down in the region and has led to the ongoing exchange with the United States every year.
