Built in 1827 by Noheji’s shipping wholesaler Jisaburo NOMURA (President of the Prefectural Agricultural and Industrial Bank, former member of the House of Representatives, etc.), it is one of the oldest nightlights in Japan. As a window to the Morioka Domain’s Sea of Japan route, it seems to have been a landmark for ships to enter the busy Noheji harbor at NIGHT.
